Oriental table decoration

I found some beautiful purple orchids in the market... Orchids are commonly used in  oriental decor...So I thought of doing a centerpiece with it.. A simple table arrangement with a oriental touch..

I used a over sized turquoise lantern which resembles a bird cage to be the main object of attraction..arranged a orchid branch over it and a candle and a lotus around ..The table runner I used is golden with red border on both ends ...

A couple of things that go well with Chinese themed centerpieces or decorations are orchids, cherry blossoms, bird cages, oriental styled lanterns, lotus , Chinese fans..
There should be a touch of gold and red in the arrangement as golden color is signifies happiness and red signifies good luck and these both colors are considered important and auspicious in Chinese culture..

Now if you are wondering how to keep the flowers alive for a long time in such a arrangement .. Here is a trick of the trade.. You need a small tube like a test tube which can hold water in it.. You can find such test tube in a florist shop in either glass and plastic.. The one I used is a plastic ones with a cover .. Just fill water in it and your flowers are safe..

If you don't find a tube like it you can always do a DIY by using a tiny plastic bag..fill it with water and tie it securely to the end of the branch.

Chinese table decor

I did this table decor on a rainy day with dull weather a few days back. I love to decorate the table as per the menu and especially on dull days to make it cheerful. Change is always good for everyone...makes us feel so good..break from the routine.

As you must have guessed the menu was Chinese. I made use of white mainly to brighten up the table.
To my surprised when I was checking my earlier table decor I saw that lat time when I did a Chinese table decor I had used white as the major color as well. It was very pretty..see here!! I had taken those photos at that time with iPhone and these are from the same iPhone as well.. but I see that for some reason the earlier are sharper:( I have to check what's wrong.

Anyway back to the decor..the pretty lotus candle is from Penang,Malaysia. I bought lots of them from the Thai Buddhist temple.  I kept some sea shells in the bowls.

The red tea pot is just a vignette ..I have no intention of using it.. because first it is too pretty and second it is too small!! The golden silk coasters are from the China town..
I have the pencil chopsticks in all colors..They look very realistic .. bought them during the Chinese new year this year..I used pink ones for me and the blue one for DH!!

Lovely glow of the lights when I put on lights in the evening..We had a good time.. romantic and relaxed!!

Chinese themed table decor

Its so dark and cold since morning.. I did the table decor in the afternoon after lunch  for the evening dinner. The weather didn't behave as per the  forecast and no sunlight today.. I like to take pictures with  bright natural light.. I think natural sunlight makes tremendous and dramatic change to the photos.. Everything looks stunning even the mundane things..:)

Table top

Anyways...Lets talk about todays decor...This table decor is for two people ..me and hubby of course..

Table Decor

The theme is Chinese.. Even if it is a Takeaway dinner I think table arrangement and decor can transfer you to entirely new place..

Table decor

I used the  white and dark colors with minimalism ...I avoided lot of patterns ... The small bowl is for different sauces.. We both fancy eating with chopsticks .. One can enjoy Chinese better with them ..:)) The table mats are made of rattan.. A wonderful bargain I got in a store in US..

Table decor

Chinese dinner would not be complete without Jasmine tea .. So the first thing I put on the table was the tea pot and small cups..

table decor 2

I used a small towel as napkin and tied a string around it...

Table decor 1

Placed flowers from the garden in the bowl... arranged Origami boats around for fun..

Candle Centerpiece

I arranged three white pillar candles with sea shells in a rattan tray as the center piece.. I also placed several fragant candles around the table.. perfect for ambiance..

Now if you are wondering if  I cooked chinese at home or got a takeaway is a secret..hahaahhaa!!
