Madrid, Spain

When we went to Spain it was very hot with beautiful skies..We totally enjoyed the beautiful city ..It is one of the best places I have been to.. very romantic, laid back, beautiful architecture, historical monuments and building, art & culture, food and lovely people..

This is "El Oso y El Madroño"- Bear and the strawberry tree in Puerta del Sol..It is very touristic area in downtown Madrid!!

Sun & Sand

The East Coast park in Singapore is build on reclaimed land and has a man made beach.. The beach has lot of trees, BBQ pits, food and entertainment facilities,sports activities ..It was a  cloudy, breezy and pleasant day. On weekend it is a favorite picnic area for families and friends. It also famous for its variety of seafood.

We sat under a tree in shade on the sand looking at the beautiful blue sea and blue sky...

That's the shapely curvy tree we sat under..We did swing on it.. but it didn't bend because of us..just for the record..lol

The breeze brought the loose autumn leaves floating down..

I made some zen sand art with the twigs.. 





Pretty flowers had dropped everywhere from the trees around...





Some water sports enthusiatist were having lot of fun and everyone was watching them with awe at the ease they seemed to be doing the stunts..

We watched the daredevil go far far inside and turn just before the ships ..

We sipped coconut water while relaxing on the sand under the cool tree makes it all so perfect..

Leaning Tower of Pisa

The day we when to Pisa it was a  scorching hot Sunday with clear blue bright sky . It was my idea and my childhood dream. DH was too tired of driving from Zurich to Venice. So we took a train. It was a pleasant journey. We changed the trains at Florence. We walked near by for a hour or two before boarding the train to Pisa. We had been to Florence in winter season. It was a totally different place in Summer. Very lively and vibrant. There was a street markets selling all kinds of pretty things, leather goods, souvenir, scarves etc 

Finally boarded the train to Pisa. It was a smaller one packed full with tourists who were eager and excited to see the leaning tower of Pisa. It is fun to see people from all over the world talking about their travels..
From the station we started walking towards where we thought the leaning tower of Pisa is. After travelling so much we have developed a sense of direction like a compass or something.

We followed the signs and road map. Since it was Sunday, except for the tourists no one was around. It was quite an experience walking on the empty streets, old buildings with beautifully carved wooden doors, closed shops( DH was so happy(lol)) Finally after 45 minutes we saw the tower. It looked as stunning and breathtaking as it looks in pictures. 

I wanted to go to the top of the tower . Only guided tours are allowed. The last one had just went inside and the next one was after 3 and a half hours. So we decided to skip it. We took all kinds of pics... trying to push the tower, trying to hold it from falling, touching its tip, pushing it with fingers etc etc.. Here is one such pic..

DH had a very Italian pizza and I had minestrone soup( I never had a better one except in Italy) and we headed back.. Again while coming back we stopped and toured in Florence.

Kite festival in Singapore

Last weekend we went to see the kite festival in Singapore. This is a part of the ongoing Mid-Autumn festival.   We could see the kite flying high in the sky way before reached there. The place had a beautiful garden, a museum showing the importance of recycling and green technology. It was near the sea shore. We could see cargo ships and yachts ..some motorboats and sailboats too..








They were selling kites too. Many professional kite flyers had a big modern spindle ..maybe it is not that modernized but I had not seen kites and kite flyers since at least 10 yrs ..so everything was so awesome for me..We were a little early but still many enthusiastic people had there kites high in the sky..They looked awesome with Singapore's skyline behind ..




Kites were in many shapes and sizes .. Bats, Eagles, Penguin, Sting ray, butterflies and even tigers..The most popular seemed to be Delta,  Sleds and Diamonds kites. Some people had bought their own big kites and were assembling them which I had never seen.. and some were getting the kites from the venue itself..Some seemed amateur and some were pro...




My favorite was the eagle..I think it is a perfect design for a kite.. See this one below.Soaring high in the sky....going above all the diamonds, bats, sting rays...

There was another one that  I liked a lot  .. It was  really big one.. The  owner  assembled  its wings with the   supporting  rods meticulously.and once it was in the sky It seemed to be a winner..

On the way to Italy...

When we drove to Italy last month .It was a very hot summer day. My husband insisted on leaving early in the morning..I not being a morning person it was tough but yes we managed..The Gotthard Pass between German speaking  and Italian speaking Switzerland is notorious for traffic jams, long tunnels and accidents. Though we started early but we still were stuck in long traffic jam at the Pass for 1 hour..really frustrating! But the weather helped.. It is so good to travel on a clear blue day with only few clouds floating in the sky.. 

We passed by beautiful Italian alps.. every green trees..quaint towns/villages.. magnificent churches which were build on the top of the mountains.. As we passed the cooler region and moved deeper into warmer Italy.. 

.....We passed by Tuscan colored houses- earthy colors like terra cotta, browns, deep reds, oranges, yellows. Wineries.. farms .. castles and fortress..!!!  Awesome!! 


Driving in Europe is something very exciting..kind of adventure for us.. different languages and signs ..different driving styles.. .when people are mean or extra nice to you after seeing your swiss number plate..food or restaurants along the way..different words for petrol ..yes the excitement and anxiety as to what should I fill and the people who try to help .. talking in sign language as we don't speak the same language!!

Brandenburg Gate, Berlin

It was a very warm and sunny day in Berlin when we went sightseeing the city. Brandenburg gate was constructed around 1778 -1791.It has beautiful carved statues and monuments from Greek mythology. During the cold war the wall was gate dividing the East and West Berlin. Today it is a symbol of unified Berlin and peace.

It is venue for celebration of Fall of Berlin wall.. When you take a tour in Berlin you will definetly notice the difference in former communist East Berlin and capitalist west Berlin..in the buildings, structures, housing. roads etc..

This place is highly popular tourist destination.. It is surrounded by ice-cream/Gelato shops and restaurants..If you happen to be there don't forget to get a visa to enter other part of Berlin stamped on a postcard as a souvenir!!

Austria

It was a glorious and extremely beautiful day when we went to Wien(Vienna), Austria. The blue sky with only few floating clouds made a marvelous backdrop to our photographs..

              There is so much to see in the magnificent city.. It has remarkable and very well restored historical monuments, buildings, statues... 

  

I love the beautiful sculptures adorned on the top or the dome of the stunning historical buildings ...The details, features and expressions of these around 200 year old statues always amaze me.. They have lived through so many years and seen worse during world wars and glorious days before and later the wars....

Schwazwald- Black Forest

Few days back we went to Schwarzwald (English: Black Forest) in Germany.. It is a beautiful forest area with quaint, pretty and very cute villages in the area.. We lived in Triberg..which is famous for its cuckoo clocks...I have never seen more prettier and cutest clocks like the ones in Triberg...They had  big and beautifully wooden carved human sized teddy bears ..musicians..dolls..dancers .. birds dancing on it... Can you believe if I tell you the biggest cuckoo clock is a house!!!!(will share the pics later in another post)...

The above was taken on Titisee(Lake Titisee) when we went for a boat ride..The water was cool ..but still we saw locals swimming in it..making most of the weather.. In winter the entire lake freezes some 30 cm and is open for ice skating ....

Swiss Summer

We went for a drive to Canton Schwyz.. It was a beautiful day with clear blue skies and warm climate... We drove past many beautiful small villages and towns.. pretty chalets and snow capped mountains.. green pastures.. cows grazing on the mountains..Para-gliders enjoying the wonderful weather...It must be such a stunning awesome view from up there....

Air show at Züri fäscht

Recently here in Zurich we had Züri fäscht(Zurich festival) which comes once in 3 years.. There were   wonderful air shows on the lake every dayand I was lucky enough to see them from the comfort of my home.. 

Its incredible to watch planes zoom by your window..

                                               See them make shapes and formations in the sky....

A beautiful clear sky on a warm sunny day ...what a perfect day!!
