Minion Craft with recycled can

We love Minions!!! Recently we have been doing many Minion crafts. This one is made with a big  size recycled can. All you need is paper, a big box to be recycled, poster colors , glue and scissors. Optional is felt for eyes and hands.
I cut out all the parts from a thick sheet of paper. First sunny boy (3) covered the can with plain paper which he colored yellow with poster paint. Next he painted and glued the clothes. The parts of specs are made separately. The eyes are made of felt. For the specs I had cut the strap and the circles...over which we glued the felt eyes. The arms were painted and then rolled up. We glued hands made from felt in it. The smile is made of scrap felt which sunny boy thought looks like a smile!! Oh yes almost forgot the beret.. We put the lid on and then glued a pompom over it!!! Hooray the minion is done!!!
Sunny boy had lot of fun doing this craft and he is very proud of his creation!!

Recycle craft: Minion

I did this craft with sunny boy last year when he was 2. 7 mnths old....I always ask Avaneesh what does ' something' looks like to increase his imagination. The yellow egg from the surprise chocolate egg looks like a Minion. He keeps calling that yellow egg a minion so I told him that we will make it a minion with it. He was excited ..".Minion how will we make one out of this" he asked. I was excited too as I find Minions adorable as well. actually everyone finds them cute..isnt it?!!

All that is needed to make is a inside case/egg of surprise chocolate egg ,black felt strip, googly eyes , blue felt or paper and glue. I cut out parts and he glued it in place. Googly eyes were his favorite part of this craft activity.

Sunny boy ( now 3.6 ) is over it and doesnot even like the kinder or surprise eggs.. but I still find  it cute so I thought of sharing it with you all!!!

Eco friendly designs by Anjali Venkat

We live on a island with limited resources and have no where else to go..That island is our planet earth..We should try our best to take care of it..The easiest way is to recycle, reuse and recreate..Today I am introducing to you all a fantastic artist who creates beautiful items with recycled material.. Her name is Anjali Venkat-a incredible glass artist from Chennai,India. Her art is funky, boho-chic and functional!!!!

She transforms discarded glass bottles into planters, CD racks, wall clocks, center tables... ...reclaimed wood and old magazine and calendar papers to create functional art. Each piece is hand-crafted and is therefore unique in its design and execution.

A glass bottle flattened and drilled to make a planter.. would look beautiful as a centerpiece on your table in living room or even the office..

A gorgeous plate to serve fruits or starters...

These candle holders/ diyas are perfect for the coming Diwali season...

This rack would add color and spark to any plain or dull wall....

Another masterpiece decorated with tiny fused glass pieces..

All you lucky guys who are living in Bangalore can see her work in person. Anjali Venkat and Shetal Parrek are holding an exhibition of these and many more beautiful functional art works at the Chitra kala Parishat at Bangalore. It starts from 24th to 26th September.

You can see more of her beautiful and creative work on her website Anjali design and  on her facebook page here!!!

Fabric covers for jam/pickle jars

I remember my mum's homemade pickle and jam jars with a cloth covers on it .. all neatly organized in a row on the rack..Now we have plastic and air tight containers which don't need the cloth covers as such...and plus people like me are too lazy to make jams and pickles at home..hmmm..Thats another topic which I need to focus some other day:) But for now I want to make at least my jars to look like my mums jars..So I made fabric covers for them!!

Let's see how to make them..

Cloth cover for jam jars

You need any scarp of fabric( cotton would be nice) , scissors, thread , some beads to decorate and a string .. You can recycle any piece of fabric in your home if you want. Place the bottle on the  fabric and cut it according to its shape a inch or two large than its size..

Cloth cover for jam jars

Tuck the border in with the help of pins and sew it along the shape.Sew some beads all around..

Cloth cover for jam jar

Place it over the lid and tie it around with the help of string ..

This is how it will look like after its done..!!

Earth day Pledge

In Montreux,Switzerland, picture taken by me on a clear blue spring day last year!!

Today is Earth day- a day to remind us the importance of taking care of Earth - our only home. Many of us would say do we need such a day to celebrate..I say yes. Many of us are so busy and engrossed in their life that we forget our responsibilities towards nature and Earth.

For some a gentle reminder and to some a wake up call to take care and keep Earth clean just like we keep our apartment/house clean...to plant more trees..to make a extra effort to recycle and reuse..to enjoy the nature..
"We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors we borrow it from our children" ..So true.. This printable is free to download at this lovely blog- nothing but country.

I pledge to reuse, recycle, reduce, restore, restyle not only today but all through my life.
